The Webster Technique
What is the Webster Technique?

This word has come to mean comfortable pregnancies, carrying full term, more comfortable labor without back
labor, and turning breech babies.

That is a dedication to the amazing, insightful, tireless Dr. Larry Webster. How could it be that a baby would not
go into the position that is best for the baby, and best for mom.  Why not go in the position that makes
everything work correctly? Why not? Dr. Webster was like a terrier with a bone- he simply would not let go of
this question until of course what we now know as the Webster technique answered that question. And in the
process of answering that also handled uncomfortable pregnancies, as well.

I am one of the doctors trained by Dr. Webster, and by virtue of receiving that training carry on Dr. Webster's
work. These miraculous bodies have the ability to work miracles, and Dr. Webster was one who taught the
previous secrets of how to assist the body in doing that.

Comfortable Pregnancy - Is this an Oxymoron?
By Jennifer Carson and Jeannie Ohm

Doc McCullen has specialized in assisting moms-to-be throughout their pregnancies for many years. Doc had
the opportunity to study with Dr. Larry Webster (developer of the Webster Technique) on several occasions,
and so knows, first hand, his approach to care for moms. So -- it makes tremendous sense to announce the
data from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association that the Webster technique isn’t just for breech
any more.

Webster technique normalizes the position of the uterus, allowing for the proper positioning of the baby. This
is how we “turn breech babies”. As you can see what Certified Webster Practitioners do is put the body in the
proper position and then babies do what they do - head down for the easiest birth for mom and baby alike.

Since this same procedure makes mom the most comfortable and puts mom’s body in the best position for the
birth, the ICPA is recommending that the Webster Technique be used throughout the pregnancy for the most
comfortable gestation period possible.

The following is from their recent report:

Considering there are pelvic biomechanics, it is determined that a relationship exists between the Webster
analysis and the causes of dystocia (dystocia [dis-to’-se-ah] abnormal labor or childbirth) “as outlined by
Williams Obstetrics. Based on these findings, it became clear that the Webster Technique was far more
significant (and chiropractically relevant) than a “breech turning technique.” These findings established the
technique as a significant means of decreasing the potential for dystocia in labor.”

“Within this theory, the technique was renamed as simply “The Webster Technique,” and the protocol was
changed to utilize this sacral analysis, adjustment and soft tissue contact throughout pregnancy to facilitate
pelvic alignment for a better birth.”

“The Webster Technique, therefore, is defined as specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment to be used
throughout pregnancy that reduces nerve system stress, balances pelvic muscles and ligaments which, in
turn, reduces the potential for intrauterine constraint and, therefore, allows for a safer, easier delivery for both
the mother and baby.”

The ICPA has sent out numerous notifications defining its current position and protocols about The Webster
Technique. The term “breech turning” is inaccurate, in that many women can have more comfortable
pregnancies utilizing Webster, and this benefit is lost if the technique is used only for proper positioning of the
baby. Moms should have the best care for their changing biomechanics (that means as the body gets bigger
how you move changes).

“Pregnancy is the beginning of the family wellness lifestyle and our care includes services that will enhance
safer and easier births for both the mother and baby.” This is wonderful news that our latest research has
revealed these benefits, and we are glad to be bringing you this important update.

Also, for years Doc’s youngest patient was 7 hours old, his parents brought him to the office after his home
birth. Recently Doc went to the birthing center to help one of her patients, and she was asked to check the
new arrival, thus now adjusting a little girl about an hour after her arrival. This is the gentlest of our Gentle
Chiropractic.

Let me help your birth be the easiest and most comfortable for yourself and your unborn child!

Yours in health,
